Hip Labral Tear
The hip is a ball and socket type joint with the round femoral head articulating with the socket or the Acetabulum. A tissue called the Labrum surrounds the hip joint and helps in creating a watertight seal for hip function.
Mechanism of labral tear:
- Degenerative : With age
- Traumatic : due to dislocations / falls
- Microtruama : In association with impingement
- Repetitive extremes of hip movements- Gymnastics, Kickboxing , Martial arts
Treatment
Smaller/ degenerative tears may be managed conservatively with the aim of pain control.
Larger tears , significant pain, failure of conservative treatment require surgical treatment .
