Dr. Aditya Sai is a gemstone. My father-in-law had a tendon injury while climbing stairs in my hometown, Odisha, and the doctor there made us nervous like anything; he asked us to rush to Bhubaneswar or Visakhapatnam immediately and get the surgery done within 7 days. Thank God, I live in Mumbai and learned about Dr. Aditya Sai through a mutual friend, and I took an appointment. Next morning, my father-in-law flew from Odisha to Mumbai, and we met Dr. Aditya Sai. Believe me, he made us so comfortable, and first he made us understand the exact situation, the need for an MRI, and in what scenarios surgery is required, etc. After all the diagnoses, he prescribed special footwear for my father-in-law for 6 weeks. Today, as I write this post, without surgery, my father-in-law is absolutely perfect and is about to go to the physiotherapists for recovery. Thank you, Dr. Aditya Sai. 🙏

I went to Dr. Aditya Sai after an acident. He showed remarkable depth of knowledge, skill, and awareness, during the process of advising for surgery and off course - also during the surgery. This helped me recover quite well. His communication and willingness to talk to other treating doctors was great and particularly helpful in mitigating risks associated with the surgery and also helped during the course of my recovery. Most of all, he comes across as a warm and sensitive doctor, which makes him among the better Doctors that I've ever met.

Experiencing a complex lateral meniscus tear, the doctor advised surgery as the sole option. Seeking a second opinion from a family doctor, he concurred with the initial diagnosis. The entire surgical process was painless both pre and post-operation. Post-op, there was manageable pain related to knee swelling. I have no complaints about the entire experience. The doctor also recommended a physiotherapist who proved highly effective, guiding me through the entire recovery. I would confidently recommend this doctor to any patient dealing with knee sports injuries.

    Frequently Asked Questions

The hip is a ball-and-socket joint in your body where the femur or thigh bone and the pelvis or hip bone meet. It is called a ball-and-socket joint because the ball at the end of the femur is connected to the socket in the pelvis, making your hip very stable and responsible for a broad spectrum of motions.

If the pelvis or the hip joint is damaged due to any reason, it is called a hip injury. The hip can be damaged due to various reasons like deterioration caused by age, accidental injury, injury while playing some high-intensity sport, etc. The joint and the muscles around it can also be damaged due to pressure if the person is overweight. The bone may lose its density, and the muscles around the bone may lose their elasticity, leading to a hip injury. Suppose you feel any discomfort like mild or severe pain, difficulty sleeping on the back, etc., visit the Shoulder and Knee Clinic or book an appointment with Dr Aditya Sai, highly regarded as one of the best hip specialists in India.

The hip is a ball-and-socket joint like a shoulder, which means that there are various elements in it that can be damaged. The multiple causes for a hip injury including,

    • Avascular Necrosis: Avascular Necrosis or Osteonecrosis is caused by clotting in the blood vessel in the hip. Osteonecrosis can be due to alcohol addiction, old age, generalized barotrauma, etc.
    • Arthritis: Deterioration of the hip joint or any other joint is arthritis. The causes can be old age, physical abnormality, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.
    • Occult Hip Fracture: A hairline fracture in the pelvic socket (often in only one hip) can cause discomfort and pain.
    • Meralgia Paresthetica: A long-term neural disorder in pregnant women or people with diabetes is called Meralgia Paresthetica.
    • Trochanteric Bursitis: Swelling and irritation of trochanteric bursa on the hip’s outer area. Bursitis often affects both hips.
    • Malignancy: Pelvis and its nearby femur may have cancer-causing pain. Often only one hip is susceptible.
    • Snapping Hip: Often, while walking, getting up or sitting down, you may hear a snapping sound caused by labral band tear or a snap in the iliopsoas tendon or iliotibial band.
    • Sciatica: Damage to the L4 and L5 nerve roots or inflammation of the piriformis muscle of the hip often causes Sciatica.
    • Paget’s Disease: Paget’s disease is a genetic abnormality in which the bones are deformed, causing pain in both hips simultaneously.
    • Primary Septic Arthritis: An infection in the synovial fluid of the hip making the hip joint dysfunction causing the Primary Septic Arthritis.
    • Radiculopathy: Radiculopathy is often due to the deterioration of the spinal disc, irritating the roots of a nerve.
    • Acute or Transient Synovitis: Transient synovitis is the most common cause of hip pain in children aged 3 to 10 (in boys more than girls). It often heals on its own in a week or two.

There can be various other causes of hip pain, so the only way you can learn the specific cause is by consulting a hip specialist.

As there are various causes of hip injuries, the variety of symptoms and their extent depends upon the cause. A few of the common symptoms are,

    • Loss of motion in the hips.
    • Joint pain and limping.
    • Pain in the groin.
    • Swelling and tenderness of the hip.
    • Difficulty and pain sleeping on the back.

If you feel any discomfort on and around the hips, you should consult with a specialist. You can visit the Shoulder And Knee Clinic and consult with Dr Aditya Sai, highly regarded as one of the best doctors for hip pain in India.

People of old age and athletes who play high-intensity sports like athletics, rugby, football, etc. can experience hip injuries such as,

    • Bursitis: The inflammation of a fluid-filled sac called bursa on the outer hip is called bursitis.
    • Fractures: When there is a break in the upper femur or thigh bone, it causes a hip fracture.
    • Strains: When the muscle joining the hip joint is stretched beyond its limit to the point of a tear, it causes hip strains.
    • Dislocations: When the femur head or ball is disconnected from the socket, it is called hip dislocation.

Hip injuries can also be caused by diseases like Osteoarthritis causing pain and restricted motion and Osteoporosis, which deteriorates the bone density causing them to break. Both these diseases are most common in the elderly.

Another injury is hip dysplasia which affects babies who either suffer from it since birth or develop it later.

For hip strains, the primary treatment advised by every hip doctor is home remedial therapy, called RICE (Rest Ice Compression Elevation)

    • Rest: You should give strenuous activities such as exercise and intense sports, etc., a miss. These activities can put excess pressure on the hip joints.
    • Ice: To alleviate the swelling, you should apply ice on the swollen part of the hip joint.
    • Compression: Compress the hip with a soft bandage or compression band to ward off any additional swelling.
    • Elevation: Elevate your hip using a pillow to alleviate the pain and swelling.

Arthritis, fractures and tendon, cartilage and ligament repair, can be treated by surgery. The femoral head can be screwed back into the socket to treat Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis or SCFE. Screwing the femoral head prevents it from slipping out again.

Medications can alleviate most afflictions like irritation, swelling and pain in the hips. The irritable hip syndrome and soft tissue can be relieved by taking certain specific pain relievers.

Hip replacement surgery is performed in the case of severe arthritis or Osteoarthritis. In severe hip injuries, surgery is performed to replace the defective parts (for example, femur head or pelvic socket) with prosthetics made of polyethene (or plastic) or ceramic material.

Physiotherapy is recommended as the initial treatment for most hip injuries and post-procedure treatment for surgeries such as hip replacement. To undergo surgery, you may look for the best hip surgeon in India or schedule an appointment with Dr Aditya Sai.

If you are looking for a surgery associated with a hip injury, you should take a few considerations before choosing the right surgeon, such as,

    • Get Recommendations: It is good to consider a few recommendations from people you know, especially from your family physician. For suggestions, you can also visit various catalogues and archives online.
    • Review the Credentials: A surgeon’s alma mater, internships and board certifications can also give you an idea of how competent the doctor is in conducting a hip surgery.
    • Experience: For surgery or any other medical afflictions, the more experience the doctor has, the better. An experience of 100s of hours of practice teaches a doctor more than any credentials.
    • Quality Health Centre: A surgeon can perform the procedure better with superior equipment and a hygienic work environment.
    • Ask Questions: You should not shy away from asking questions about the injury and the following surgery. The doctor should answer every question and explain the surgery and post-procedures in great detail.
    • Read The Patients’ Reviews: Patients’ reviews tell us more about a doctor and the hospital more than any guide or website can.
    • Health Insurance: With the astronomical prices for surgeries and medical treatments, you should always have health insurance. Make sure that the surgeon and procedure you are going to have should be covered in your insurance.
